Interpreters Eager to Deliver Your Voice
The Ministry of Justice (MOJ), under Justice Minister Beom Kye Park, announced the launch of the
Refugee-Dedicated Interpreter Certification (RDIC) from January 2022.
Under the RDIC, which aims at enhanced interpretation output and expertise for Refugee
Status Determination (RSD)
procedures, only certified interpreters who complete training and pass an assessment conducted
by an outside organization will be eligible for appointment as refugee interpreters.
As the RDIC includes certification examinations to interpretation skills learning courses,
it is expected to ensure
more accurate communication and better protection of rights and interests of people in need of
international protection during RSD interview.
Starting from June last year, the MOJ has been working with the Hankuk University of
Foreign Studies (HUFS) Industry- Academia Cooperation Project to select appropriate
interpreter candidates. As a result,
there are 30 languages and 160 certified interpreters available, among which, four were chosen
as representatives to attend an RDI appointment ceremony, which was held today.
