When you arrive at a new country, you have to fill out this form, the arrival card. 

Inbound foreign passengers coming to Korea have to fill out this form when going through immigration and present it together with their passports.

How does the “e-Arrival card” change the entry process?

Since February 24, the Ministry of Justice of Korea has announced a completely new system. 

I know many of you may not be familiar with the new system yet.  

So, today, we are here, the Incheon International Airport, to meet two immigration officers who clarify all the doubts you'll have.  

Let's check it out. 

입국심사 전에 뭔가를 열심히 적고 계셨던 기억, 있으시죠?

네, 바로 이 ‘입국신고서’입니다. 외국인 승객은 한국에 입국할 때 꼭 작성해서 여권과 함께 제출해야 했는데요.

하지만! 이제 미리 온라인으로 간편하게 제출할 수 있습니다.

지난 2월 24일부터 법무부가 전자입국신고제를 본격적으로 시행했습니다. 

아직 생소하신 분들도 많으실 것 같아요.

그래서! 오늘 여러분께 전자입국신고서 꿀팁을 전수하겠다는 직원분들을 만나기 위해 여기 인천공항으로 달려왔습니다.

How does the “e-Arrival card” change the entry process?

Have you ever filled out an arrival card with half-closed eyes right after waking up on a flight? Well, not any more. 

True! I've also seen many passengers get embarrassed after losing their arrival card while standing right in front of an immigration officer.

Now, with the “e-Arrival card,” you can just fill it out and submit it even before departing for Korea.  

Alright! A much more convenient and smother process to enter Korea. 

Of course! We, as immigration officer, love this new system. Until now, we had to go through all the information on each arrival card and scan them one by one. 

But eliminating this step really speeds up the process for both officers and passengers.

So, what should I do? Where and how can I fill out the new e-arrival card?

전자입국신고제 시행으로 입국 절차가 어떻게 달라졌나요?

비행기 안에서 비몽사몽하면서 입국신고서 써본 적 있으시죠? 이제 그런 불편함은 사라집니다!

맞아요. 입국심사를 받으려고 보니 작성해 둔 입국신고서를 잃어버려서 당황하는 승객들도 많거든요

이제는 한국으로 출발하기 전에 미리 온라인으로 입국신고서를 작성할 수 있습니다!

우와~ 그럼 이제 승객분들이 훨씬 편하게 입국할 수 있겠네요!

네! 그리고 저희 심사관들도 좋아요!

예전엔 일일이 종이 입국신고서를 스캔하고 확인해야 했는데, 이제는 전자입국신고 덕분에 입국심사 시간이 확 단축될 거예요!

승객도 좋고, 심사관도 좋고… 이거 정말 모두에게 좋은 제도네요?!

그럼 이제 전자입국신고서를 작성해야 하는데, 어디서, 어떻게 작성하면 되나요?

You can fill out and submit the e-Arrival card up to three days before arriving in Korea by visiting the e-Arrival card website, www.e-arrivalcard.go.kr, on your computer or smartphone, and the three-day period is based on Korean time.

Do all inbound foreign passengers need to fill out the e-arrival card?  

No! It’s only required for those staying in Korea for less than 90 days.

Then, who is exempt from doing it?

모든 외국인 입국자가 전자입국신고서를 작성해야 하나요?

아닙니다!

90일 이하 단기체류 목적으로 입국하는 외국인분들만 해당해요.

그렇다면 예외도 있나요?

Passengers with a valid K-ETA approval, registered foreign residents in Korea, and airline crew members do not need to submit the e-Arrival card.

Here’s something important to remember! Passengers planning to stay in Korea for more than 90 days but who are not registered residents are not exempt from the new system. 

What kind of information do you need for me when I am filling out the new e-Arrival card?

First of all, personal information from your passport

Place of residence in Korea and contact information

Expected date of arrival and departure

Flight or ship number for inbound and outbound travel

Lastly, purpose of entry and your occupation 

Isn't it a little bit of a hassle to fill out everything?

You can simply take a picture of your passport's personal information page or upload a photo of it, and all the details will be automatically filled in.

Let's think about maybe one situation where we have a group coming maybe a group of friends or family. 

Does each person have to fill out the e-Arrival card separately? or Can one person do for everyone as a group? 

One person can fill it out for the whole group, but everyone has to arrive on the same flight and on the same day.

What if someone else fills it out for me? Is it possible, for example, if I am coming through a travel agency, can the travel agency fill out the e-Arrival card for me, as a client, as a traveler? Is it fine?

Yeah, if you can't fill out the e-Arrival card yourself, someone else can fill it out for you.

입국신고서를 제출하지 않아도 됩니다!

단! 90일 이상 장기체류 예정이지만 아직 외국인등록이 안 된 경우에는 전자입국신고서를 제출해야 한다는 점, 꼭 기억하세요!

전자입국신고서에 어떤 정보를 입력해야 하나요?

성명, 생년월일, 국적 등 여권정보

한국에서 지낼 장소와 연락처

입국일자, 출국일자

이용 항공편 또는 선박명

입국목적과 직업 정보

정보 입력이 불편하지 않을까요?

여권의 인적면을 촬영하거나, 사진을 업로드하면 여권정보는 자동 입력이 된답니다~

오~ 이거 진짜 편하겠네요!

가족 여행이나 친구들과 여러 명이 한국 여행을 올 수도 있잖아요.

같은 정보를 입력해야 한다면, 한 명이 대표로 작성하면 더 간편하지 않을까요?

맞아요! 그런 경우라면 일괄 신청이 가능합니다!

같은 날, 같은 항공기나 선박을 이용해서 입국하는 경우, 한 명이 대표로 작성해서 제출할 수 있어요.

오~ 그럼 단체여행을 오는 경우, 여행사가 대신 작성해 줄 수도 있나요?

네, 본인이 직접 작성하기 어려운 경우라면, 다른 사람이 대신 작성할 수도 있습니다.

But keep in mind that any information they enter will be considered as provided by you.

Incorrect information could cause a trouble for your entry. 

So, double-check the information and don’t overlook any details!

What if for example I decide to change my hotel, change the place of my staying in Korea, is there a way to fix and correct my information?

No worries! 

After you submit the e-Arrival card, you'll get a submission number.

You can use that number or verify through your email to find your card and make any changes if needed.

How long is it valid for?

It’s valid for 72 hours.

다만! 대리인이 작성해 제출한 것도 본인이 직접 작성한 것으로 간주되기 때문에, 잘못된 정보가 입력되면 불이익이 발생할 수 있다는 점! 꼭 기억해주세요!

그러니까 대리 신청을 하더라도 입력된 정보가 정확한지 꼭 확인해야 한다는 거네요!

네! 작은 실수라도 입국 심사에서 불편을 겪을 수 있으니, 신중하게 작성하는 게 중요합니다! 

만약 제출 후에 정보를 잘못 입력했다면요? 혹은 한국에서 체류 장소가 바뀌면요?

걱정하지 마세요!

전자입국신고서를 제출하면 발급번호를 받게 되는데, 이 발급번호 또는 이메일 인증을 통해서 제출한 입국신고서를 조회 및 수정 가능합니다!

전자입국신고서의 유효기간은 얼마나 되나요?

제출 후 72시간 내에 사용 가능합니다!

What if I don’t make it within that time?

You'll have to fill it out again.

Do I still need to print it out?

Nope! Immigration officer can check it in the system. So there’s no need to bring a printout.

If I submit it once, do I have to do it again next time? 

Let's say I come to Korea very frequently. Do I have to do it every time that I enter the country?

The e-Arrival card must be submitted every time you enter Korea.

It seems like a small change, but it actually makes things way easier for travelers and for immigration officers as well. 

That’s right! No more struggling to fill out a paper form on the plane while half-asleep. 

Now, just complete it online before your trip and get through immigration smoothly at the airport!

아쉽지만! 

전자입국신고서는 한 번 사용할 때마다 새로 제출해야 합니다.

한국에 다시 입국할 땐 새롭게 작성해 제출해 주세요!
